You want to step out of your comfort zone, you know this is not the place you want to be in anymore but do not know how make the first step? Leaving your comfort zone is easier than you think and it can help you change your life once you understand what is keeping you from doing it. I will show you three easy steps inspired from my yoga coaching methods to help you move forward with more calm and confidence.
The trick with taking action in our life and allowing change to happen is that we have the false belief that it is easier and more comfortable to stay with our discomfort in the so-called “comfort zone”. To be honest, that “comfort zone” is even not comfortable to start with so there is no reason for you to stay there. Actually let’s stop calling it a “comfort zone” because it is not and will never get comfortable, no matter how long you stay there and how long you wait.

So follow these 3 easy steps and leave your comfort zone without fear nor looking back.
Step 1: sit down with the scary and judgmental response it triggers.
Anytime we try something new or go for the unknown, our reptilian brain triggers a fight or flight response that is supposed to keep us safe and alive. This was useful back in the days when we had to fight against predators or run away from them. Today it is different but our reptilian brain stayed there and keeps operating the same way. On top of that your unconscious mind will play its favourite tracks of self-limiting beliefs that you inherited from childhood, social beliefs, school or from any situation in which you might have “failed” or felt uncomfortable in the past. Should you be discouraged by this show? No. The key to change for a better and more empowered life, in business or in personal life is to be able to hear your mind’s concerns and to feel your physiological response to the unknown without engaging with them. Sit down, listen to what goes on in your mind, observe the thought patterns and the self-critic rolling out, even thank them all for wanting keep you safe. Thank you but no thank you, you know you’ll be fine.

Step 2: breathe through your belly.
Put your right hand on your belly and take deep breaths in that space. Filling up your belly with air on the inhale and letting it empty completely on the exhale. This will switch on your para-sympathetic nervous system and automatically trigger a relaxation response in your body. Now that your body and mind know that you are fine, that you are safe, it can calm itself down and let you take action.
Step 3: pump yourself up with positive energy before taking action.
This technique is called energizing breath. Very simply, stand up and breathe in and out through the nose forcefully. Inhale, take your arms straight up, open up your hand wide and spread out your fingers toward the ceiling. Exhale take both arms down, elbows bent and hands closed into fists. Repeat 20 times at a fast and regular rhythm. You will feel warm, energized and confident with a little buzz going through the body.
